

Dr. Raquel Botto
Dr Raquel Botto is a specialist in General Practice and Family Medicine, with a career shaped by international experience, continuous professional development and a patient‑centred approach. She values close, empathetic relationships with her patients, providing care to individuals and families “from birth to old age.”
She graduated in Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon in 2008 and complemented her academic training with an Erasmus programme at the Complutense University of Madrid (2005–2006). She obtained specialist certification in General Practice and Family Medicine in Portugal in 2014 and later in Canada, through the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC), in 2017.
Throughout her career, she has pursued advanced and differentiated training, including the ECHO Liver Programme at the Toronto University Health Network (2021), focused on the diagnosis and management of liver diseases, and a mini‑fellowship in patient‑centred paediatric mental health with the REACH Institute, USA (2020–2021). More recently, she completed the SIMUR postgraduate programme in Emergency Medicine at Hospital da Luz Learning Health, in 2023.
She began her professional practice with her foundation year at Centro Hospitalar Lisboa Ocidental (2009), followed by her residency in General Practice and Family Medicine at Unidade de Saúde Familiar Mactamã, in Sintra (2010–2013). In parallel, she was part of the Paediatric Emergency Department team at Hospital de Cascais between 2011 and 2014.
Since 2014, she has worked as a Consultant Family Physician, gaining extensive international experience in Canada, where she practised in Edmonton (2015–2018) and Toronto (2018–2022). During this period, she developed substantial experience caring for migrant and refugee populations, strengthening both her clinical and cultural competencies within an inclusive healthcare model.
After returning to Portugal in 2022, she continues her clinical practice in General Practice and Family Medicine, with broad experience in face‑to‑face consultations, telephone consultations and video consultations.
Dr Raquel Botto is also the author and co‑author of several scientific works presented at national and international conferences, reflecting her strong commitment to continuous medical education and clinical excellence.
